The Domestic Violence Awareness Project (DVAP) supports the rights of all individuals to live in peace and dignity. Domestic violence must be eliminated.
The purpose of the DVAP is to support and promote national, tribal, territorial, state, and local advocacy networks in their ongoing public education efforts through public awareness, strategies, materials, resources, capacity-building, and technical assistance.
The voices, leadership and expertise of survivors who have been abused are critical and necessary components of these campaigns.
We use our collective voice to:
-
Promote safe and respectful relationships
-
Increase survivors' access to support systems
Our History
In 1995, the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence (NRCDV) met with several national domestic violence organizations to intentionally communicate, support, and share awareness and education efforts across organization. Originally this group focused on sharing and supporting Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) efforts. This collaborative effort became the Domestic Violence Awareness Project (DVAP).
Today the group focuses on shifting awareness to action to create social change all year long. Not only has the DVAP's vision grown, but members now consist of a multi-disciplinary and diverse group of national, state, and local organizations, as well as individual advocates.
Original DVAP members were the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence (NRCDV), Futures Without Violence (formerly the Family Violence Prevention Fund), the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the National Domestic Violence Hotline, and later the National Network to End Domestic Violence.
